I was looking through my traffic logs, calculating how much I could potentially earn on my different sites if I had even a 1 percent conversion, and realized how much I’ve been missing the opportunities that are right at my doorstep.
Well, that’s about to change! I was asking myself why on earth I didn’t see it all beforehand, and I have to say there are 2 reasons - perfectionism, and fear of failure. The two are of course related, but I’d paralyzed myself into inactivity on the information product creation front.
I kept thinking of problems:
- how much should I charge?
- will it be ‘good enough’
- it seemed huge - not only getting the products ready, but the supporting stuff - sales letters, email series, graphics
And the list went on! But instead of then working through each problem and finding a solution, I stayed stuck at the problem. No doubt due to my inner resistance, and the fact that having my own products seemed like a huge leap. I think what helped me was daydreaming about how great it would be to have my own store. I was daydreaming in brick and mortar, but then I thought, hang on a minute, I can do this online! I have the ‘busy street’ (ie traffic) already.
And then, I thought, oh, being the perfectionist, I didn’t want to touch my busiest sites! So, I got around this by setting up a compeltely new one (just in the middle of it now!). But it seems to have done the trick mentally - just by going through that process, I have realized how easy it is.
One of the sticking points for me has beeb price. All the big internet marketing people always talk about how you should set a high price. And whilst this seems to hold more for internet marketing and business products, I couldn’t quite see that extending to some niches. So, I have decided to go with what I think is a ‘fair’ price. If it’s lower than what I could charge, then that’s okay.
My little experiment, or my way of dealing with my own blocks around releasing products goes like this:
The products will be added to. They will be revised and new chapters and information will go in there. But I coudl spend forever doing this. So, instead of selling at the highest price I could first, I will sell it at what I think is a ‘fair’ price, partly based on my comfort level and a few other things. That way, I can get the product out there, still with good information, and current customers can have free upgrades. And I can revise my price later to reflect new additions. That way its fair to everyone, and I can finally get ideas out of my head and into action!
My title asked a question - are you caught up in adsense? I wrote this because I realized I was. I was chasing some idea of 5 figure adense checks (which no doubt will come in time - it’s not too bad now!). But I was so busy with my eye on that goal, that I completely missed how I could be adding thousands to my monthly income from my current visitors. That’s huge! Now, I don’t make Made-for-adsense-sites, so selling products from them will not be a problem, as I try to provide decent information. But when I did some number crunsching, I could not believe what I was leaving lying on the table. Talk about short-sighted!
It’s so easy to get caught up in thinking - oh, I need more traffic, or more this, or more that. But, how often do we really look at how we are monetizing our exisitng traffic?
